Christina Aguilera Becomes Radio DJ

Christina Aguilera becomes DJ, talks music, film

By MESFIN FEKADU (AP) – 21 hours ago

NEW YORK — You'll be hearing more of Christina Aguilera's voice on the radio soon, but it won't be in the form of a song. Instead, the pop singer will work as a DJ.

Aguilera's very own radio station is set to debut Friday. The 24-hour online channel will be distributed across Clear Channel Radio's "iheartradio" network, and will feature interviews, news, personal commentary from Aguilera as well as her favorite tunes.

"It stands across so many different feels and genres from A Tribe Called Quest to the Beatles to Billie Holiday to Bjork to Black Sabbath, Jay-Z," she said in a phone interview from Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The new radio venture, A.P.E. Radio (Artist Personal Experience), will also launch The Eagles' own channel Friday, to be hosted by guitarist Joe Walsh. Weezer's station is set to launch next month.

The radio station is not the only project she's working on. Aguilera, a 28-year-old mother to a 1-year-old son, is also working on a new CD and has signed on to do a movie with Cher; both are due to be released next year.

The Associated Press: How does a radio channel fit you?

Aguilera: In the beginning when I make my CDs, I make inspiration record-CDs and I hand them out to all the producers that I am looking forward to working with. And I hand out these CDs and at the end of the day it's funny because all the producers, or a lot of the producers, are like, "Wow, you should be a DJ." It's a really great mix of songs, and they're so different and eclectic and that's my style in general.

AP: Will you premiere your new music on the channel?

Aguilera: Possibly. I'm really, really excited to release some of my new music and this is actually a great way to let my fans hear maybe a little sneak preview.

AP: You're working on electronic-futuristic pop. Why that sound now?

Aguilera: I kind of had an idea for a futuristic feel for many years now, but I also had that idea that I wanted to do a soul, blues and jazz record also. But I knew I had to do that one first ... It's always been in the back of my mind to do a more futuristic sound. But I felt like it couldn't been a better time or place for me personally also as a new mom.

AP: While you're creating your new CD, are you paying attention to what's on the radio now?

Aguilera: No, that was the funny thing too. I did start to notice that music did start to take a more electronic turn ... But I really don't pay attention to what's going on out there because I want everything I do to have a very original feel. I wanted to keep a good balance of future but still mix it with a very real and believable sound.

AP: Now that you have a family, have you had any issues with paparazzi?

Aguilera: We moved into our new house about a year ago but since I started working on the record, I have a studio in the backyard ... and it just has been so perfect for me to just wake up in the morning, put on my flip flops and sweat pants, and just go back in the studio and pretty much get into my creative cave and zone out that way, so it's been really convenient. So the paparazzi have probably been upset with me. I know they told my husband, they're like, "Is she every going to leave the house?"

AP: Talk about your new film "Burlesque."

Aguilera: I finally believed in a movie enough and a script enough, and a director enough to sign on and do my first feature film. Cher will be starring with me, so it's very exciting for me to step into that project and I'll be taking it very seriously so that's actually what I am diving into filming over the next few months.

AP: What comes to mind when you look back at how your career has gone so far?

Aguilera: I keep trying to test myself and try new things because at the end of the day, I want to look back at a huge body of work and be so excited ... I never like to get too comfortable because I think that's when you start to really fail, when you start believing your own hype so I'm always very reserved in my own praise of myself. ... I always try to shoot for bigger and better basically.

Well, the radio station is an interesting move. We'll see how it turns out.
She makes me laugh with the electronic sound thing. I guess everybody takes this route nowadays.

Therefore, Sia has revealed some information on Aguilera's new album

Pride Source: I know you've been super busy with the recording of this album, but also you were working with Christina Aguilera for a bit.

Sia: Yeah, hello!

PS: A huge gay icon.

S: She's really fun. You would love her.

PS: Yeah? I read a blog post that you wrote regarding what went on behind the scenes, like drinking milkshakes, grammar lessons -

S: And how I wanted to eat her child like corn on the cob (laughs). I still do.

PS: Sounds like it must've been a fun recording experience.

S: It really was. It was so fun. She's a really nice person. I'm going over their house to have game night some time. It's gotta be an odd day, because now I'm trying to get fit so I've got a personal trainer. I'm in Hollywood now, recording the album with a personal trainer. It's hilarious.

PS: You've hit the big time.

S: I'm really, really moving up in the world. So I'm going over (to Aguilera's) one night next week when I don't have to get up early with the personal trainer the next day, because she's a bit of a night owl, so I know it'll probably end up being a late one. She has Super Mario in her house. She has a game room that has arcade games in it and a pool table and stuff. I think when you're that famous, it becomes sort of a necessity. If you were gonna go on a fun excursion, if you're as famous as her, it's sort of impossible without the paparazzi or fans wanting your attention. In her case, it was a smart move to build a room in the house for that sort of thing (laughs).

PS: I would totally have the same if I were famous.

S: Yeah, if I was that famous, and if I could afford it, I would build several restaurants in my house with different themes, and probably a dog park and a Pinkberry (Frozen Yogurt). Maybe a board game haven, with Taboo, Scrabble -

PS: So the material that you wrote for her, is it happy or depressing?

S: It's a bit of both. It's kind of more ballad-y. There's one really beautiful kind of mid-tempo; I guess that's the one they're thinking might be a single. I have a couple of favorites, but my favorite is kind of like a lullaby. I don't remember what we're calling it now, but we wrote it for her son, and it's really beautiful.

PS: Aw! Cute.

S: So beautiful. It's like classical music beautiful. And another one that's called "You Lost Me," which is very sad and awesome. It's my favorite thing to hear her sing since "Beautiful," just the way her voice is. It suits her voice so beautifully, and it's very simple in a way.

PS: A lot of gay people, including myself, love "Beautiful."

S: Me too. That was why I nearly my pants when they called and said she wanted to work with me. I was like, "Ahhhhhh!" That's one of my favorite songs that anybody has ever wrote in the whole universe.

Reports From Beyoncé First Las Vegas Show

And I tell you: this sounds too good to be true.

The rumored setlist looks like this:

Narrator Fairytale Intro

* "Halo"
* "Sweet Dreams" (Acoustic Version)
* "That's Why You're Beautiful"
* "Listen"
* "Dangerously in Love" (contains excerpts of "Sweet Love")

The Story of Destiny's Child

* "No, No, No"
* "Bug a Boo"
* "Bills Bills Bills"
* "Say My Name"
* "Jumpin', Jumpin'"

Beyonce talks about Austin Powers in Goldmember

* "Work It Out"

Beyonce talks about her debut album Dangerously In Love

* "Crazy in Love"
* "Naughty Girl"

Beyonce talks about B'Day

* "Get Me Bodied"
* "Déjà Vu"
* "Resentment"

Beyonce talks about being in love

* "03 Bonnie & Clyde"
* "Satellites"
* "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)"

YES @ Resentment. I can't wait to hear it.
YES @ Scared Of Lonely. It was the best performance during the I Am... Tour in my opinion. This is why I never understood why she performed it so rarely. Thank God she did at my show.
YES @ it having a story line. Not even her video (except "If I Were A Boy") do have one.

According to a fan report she even said things like:

"I know u like it when i shake my ass." and, when she was abt to sing Bonnie and Clyde, she said "after all my success, i still felt empty, then I found love." the audience went CRAZY.
When she was about to perform DeJa Vu, she said, "We're in Vegas...I'm gna give u some Ella Fitzgerald". Then she started scatting. She could scat!!!!!!!! She was doing the damn thing...then she broke into DeJa Vu and started the signature dance...AMAZING!!!!!!!

For bootylicious, she said, "They said a lot of things about my body, but I KNOW I'm Bootylicious, and if you don't know what that is, look it up in the dictionary."...everyone went BANANAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES BEYONCE YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So this show has basically nothing to do with the regular tour and it sounds effin awesome. I can't wait to get this on DVD...no on BLURAY. I want that shit on BLURAY. BLURAY. HIGH DEFINITION! YESSSS.

Ok lemme stop.

Just one more thing.

Apparently no cameras etc. were allowed. So you can close the youtube window you just opened again.

Australian Interview with Beyoncé

For Australian promotion Beyoncé was interviewed by Today Toight.

Watch it here.

Nice interview. Nothing really new but she talks her "IV" tattoo for the first time.

Oh and I want somebody to show Kelly Rowland this interview. In the beginning Beyoncé mentioned something very important...BREAT CONTROL.

Nelly Furtado: Timbaland and I wrote 20 songs in 2 days

Singer Nelly Furtado reveals in a recent interview that she is already working on the follow-up of "Loose".

Your background is actually Portuguese. So how come you ended up making a Spanish language album?
Nelly Furtado: I started speaking Spanish when I was 14 in high school, and I had a lot of friends whose parents were from Latin American countries. On Loose I wrote a song in Spanish that was kind of my tribute to reggaeton, which was called “No Hay Igual.” It’s pretty basic Spanish. But it’s still Spanish! I tried to write a song in English after Loose and it just wasn’t coming. And then I found myself writing in Spanish and got excited about pop songs again. It feels the same as when I sing in Portuguese. I guess the common thread is that it’s a Latin language, so it feels right.

You had so much success with Loose. Was there any pressure from your label to do exactly the same thing again?
Um….. Yes. [Laughs] They actually wanted me to do a quick and easy Spanish version of the Loose material and then maybe one or two originals. But I put the breaks on that. I feel like you have to follow your heart because you have more to lose if you compromise and then don’t succeed. But you’ve got to really appreciate success when it comes. With Loose I took the time to toast with champagne every number one and every platinum record.

So you were basically drunk for two years.
Yes! [Laughs]

Has making Mi Plan helped with your English language songwriting?
Yes! Yes! It cured my writer’s block in a way. I would love to do another Spanish record, but I’m also writing an English album. Timbaland and I hooked up in the studio about three months ago and we wrote 20 songs in two days. It was really inspired. I think maybe some of that material will be on my English album. I also worked with (producer) Salaam Remi on this Spanish project. He’s worked with Amy Winehouse. He and I have a really good connection as well, so maybe more stuff with him.

You worked with a lot of different people on Mi Plan.
One cool thing about the Latin music world is that it’s massive. There are so many artists to collaborate with.

Like Josh Groban?
Like Josh Groban of course! Latino! (Laughs.) He’s my token gringo on the album. I’m joking! No, Josh is actually an incredible singer in Spanish as well. We’re friends and I love his voice.

Eminem Answers "Obsessed" with a "The Warning feat. MC"

Daaamn. I know it was only a question of time but he seems to be real mad. That whole thing is getting dirty. Now we gotta see if Mariah will continue the beef.
I expect that Nick will actually speak once again since Em also insults him.

While Mariah responded to him in a creative way Eminem can't obviousy do better than this. Pathetic.

Jordin Sparks' "Battlefield" Disappoints On The Charts

American Idol star Jordin Sparks sold almost 48,000 units of her sophomore album "Battlefield" in the first week.
This makes her debut at #7 on Billboard 200.

Since I do not really like "Battlefield" I can understand why she sort of flopped but still it surprises me because I felt like the general opinion was that the song "Battlefield" is amazing. Obviously this didn't make people buy the album.

Personally, I don't think Jordin gets dropped but it would help to either have a successful second single (I don't see a song on the album that could achieve that) or great success overseas.

Video: Sugababes - Get Sexy

Go to stream

Seriously, they lost the charme they had with that ish. I really used to like the Sugababes but now as they want to cross over to the US market they seem to take the very sexy route. No, thanks. Not for me. The video looks hella cheap.

When Mutya quitted she left a space that couldn't be filled. Especially not with Amelle.

Black Eyed Peas Set Billboard Hot 100 Record

The Black Eyed Peas set a record this week for the longest successive No. 1 chart run by a duo or group in the Billboard Hot 100's history. "I Gotta Feeling" is in its fifth consecutive week at No. 1, following 12 weeks at the top by the Peas' "Boom Boom Pow." Boyz II Men reigned on the chart for two 16-week runs in the mid-'90s.

Pink To Perform At The VMAs

Now singer Pink has been added to the performer list. Seems like there will be a bunch of good artists perform there.

Speaking of artists who always give show-stopping VMA performances, P!nk will be singing something from her smash album Funhouse. Last year P!nk made a fiery production out of her #1 single "So What"--complete with explosions, leather and strategically placed tape. Need we say more?

Me likey. It's nothing too spectecular (it looks kinda cheap too) but she got some nice new moves and the idea with the closet is great.

Btw, I somewhat get a Beyoncé feeling when watching her, e.g. Deja Vu and Single Ladies.

Madonna's new single "Celebration" just leaked and it sounds fantastic. The production is on point. The electro beat really makes you want to dance.

Shakira opened registration for her new street team "DUST". The description sounds a bit silly with that special DUST handshake but I guess somebody was trying to be funny. Whatever. Join if you got nothing else to do or feel that Shakira needs your support.

Hola!

To help promote Shakira's new single, video and album on the Internet, we're pleased to announce the launch of DUST (it's short for Digital User Shakira Team, but please keep that to yourself). If you become a member of the DUST crew, you'll not only win the respect of your peers, you'll be given digital tools and tips to help spread the word about Shakira online. And the more work you put in, the more rewards you'll be given in return. We're not exactly sure what those rewards will be yet, but rest assured they will be Very Impressive Indeed.

Anyone can become a DUST member (although having access to a computer would sort of help). And we're looking for folks to join from across the globe to make up an international DUST network. In fact, we're even working on a special DUST handshake, so that you'll be able to greet your fellow DUSTars, wherever you go.

So, are you with us? If so, please click here and join the crew. We will then be in touch shortly with your first mission.

Trust DUST. And the rest will follow.

Veteran English band Def Leppard is on the road with Poison and Cheap Trick providing support and five of their shed dates chart this week. The Vans Warped Tour kicks off its 15th year with strong initial totals come in for six of its shows. A summer co-headlining package featuring Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd lands on the chart with totals from four venues. Their "Rock and Rebels Tour II," promoted by Live Nation, is a follow-up to last year's successful outing together. Omaha rockers 311 just wrapped this year's Unity Tour with Ziggy Marley and The Expendables. The seven shows reported during the past week top $1.5 million in ticket sales.

Ryan Tedder Talks Already Gone/Halo Issue

From his myspace (the post has been deleted but everything that is once on the Internet stays on the Internet).

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 9:29 AM

Kelly Clarkson "Already Gone" and Beyoncé "Halo" issue

Hey everyone, Ryan here. So.....i'm in Europe on vacation with my wife yesterday when I get a flurry of emails with links to gossip sites and media outlets saying "Kelly clarkson throws producer Ryan Tedder under the bus re: Already Gone" etc etc etc... Alleging that I copied myself or "pulled a fast one" on Kelly Clarkson. This couldn't be farther from the truth and the whole thing is absurd....however, I need to actually read what the hell is going on, make a call or 2, and be fully informed of it, then I assure you I will have a proper, respectful response. I don't take allegations of this nature lightly- ESPECIALLY when it's in regards to artists I respect and admire. Nor do I let things like this go unaddressed. So, give me a minute, and I'll tell u whatsup and what really happened, or in this case, "didn't" happen.

Regards-

Ryan Tedder

TMZ posted this:

Now, Tedder is firing back at Clarkson with the following statement:

"Already Gone" is one of the best song I've written or produced since "Bleeding Love" and stands tall on it's own merits apart from "Halo".

They are two entirely different songs conceptually, melodically, & lyrically and I would never try to dupe an artist such as Kelly Clarkson or Beyoncé into recording over the same musical track, the idea is both hurtful & absurd.

I think when people hear "Already Gone" they will hear what I hear-one of the greatest female vocalists on earth giving her most haunting and heart-breaking performance on a song she helped write.

I challenge people to listen and form their own opinions.

In my opinion Tedder thinks we are stupid. I feel like I can sing "Halo" to the instrumental of "Already Gone".

It's a nice video and Nelly (and her man as well, damn he was actually ver hoooot) looks good. I still see the "Love Don't Cost A Thing" similarity but oh well.

LeToya CNN Interview

Nice interview. It's only 27 days to go till "Lady Love" gets released.

Whitney Houston Moves UP Release Date

Whitney Houston's official website states that Houston's long awaited come back album "I Look To You" is going to be released on August 30 instead of September 1.

The reason for this is that she will now be considered for this year's Grammy nomination and moreover the fact she will get another day of extra sales is also not to be forgotten.

MTV has interviewed her about the album.

Behind The Scene: Nelly Furtado - Manos Al Aire

Nelly Furtado is going to release her first Spanish album in September. As soon as the actual video is released I will post it of course.

Dr. Murray Gave MJ Propofol

TMZ reveals that suspect Dr. Murray admitted to the police that he administered Propofol to Michael Jackson hours before the death.

We've told you since July 15 police believe Dr. Conrad Murray administered Propofol to Michael Jackson -- the drug that killed him. There's a reason police believe it. Dr. Murray told them.

Two days after Jackson's death, Dr. Murray told LAPD detectives he administered Propofol to the singer hours before he died ... this, according to multiple law enforcement sources.

We're told Dr. Murray gave Jackson an IV drip of the powerful anesthesia. Police believe Dr. Murray simply wasn't paying attention when the singer's heart stopped beating.

Authorities believe Dr. Murray may have actually fallen asleep during the time the drug was administered and may have awakened to find Jackson already dead from heart failure.

An IV drip of Propofol allows a constant, steady infusion of the drug for a period of time determined by the person administering it.

It is considered reckless in the medical community for a doctor to administer an IV drip of Propofol without the patient being monitored by an EKG, which sounds an alarm when the patient's pulse drops too low. No EKG was found in the house.

Another device -- known as a pulse oximeter -- is used to determine the oxygen saturation in the patient's blood. If the patient's breathing slows to a dangerous level, an alarm alerts the treating physician. Again, no oximeter was found in the house.

This whole case is fucked up.

Ciara Sings Acapella "American Boy"

Ciara just twittered a video I did definitely not expect. She tells us she is bored watching "Making The Band" and "acts" like she would audition for this show.

I was cracking up when she said "I have nothing to do", she corrected herself shortly afterwards but still. LMFAO
Anyways, her cover of British singer Estelle's song "American Boy" was nice. Too bad the audio and video was not sync in the end and her voice likes to disappear at the high note but it was good overall.

iCheck: C.S. RuckeR - The Hungry Kid Mixtape

I was given this mixtape "The Hungry Kid" by C.S. RuckeR. It's hosted by DJ Nice and features productions from Drixxe, Freon, Kid Rolex, Robot Koch and more.

I really enjoyed listening to this compilation as it delivers some nice hip hop joints and the production is on point.

MTV News RAW: Mariah Carey

Video: Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone

The video is ok. Nothing too exciting at all.

More interesting is the controverse this song causes:

If you’ve been listening to the radio lately, it’s possible you’ve heard the soaring strains of Already Gone, the newest single off All I Ever Wanted. It’s very likely that you thought you’d heard the epic song before, albeit in a slightly different form. Kelly Clarkson collaborated with Ryan Tedder on the track, a dramatic ballad driven by a pounding heartbeat, twinkly piano and swooping strings. Unbeknownst to Clarkson, Tedder used suspiciously similar elements when he produced another recent mega-hit, Beyonce’s Halo.

“Ryan and I met each other at the record label, before he was working with anyone else,” Clarkson begins, gritting her teeth. “He’s from Oklahoma, I’m from Texas; we got along really well and had some of the same influences. We wrote about six songs together, four or five of them made the album. It was all fine and dandy. I’d never heard of a song called Halo. Her album came out when my album was already being printed. No-one’s gonna be sittin’ at home, thinking ‘Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce and Kelly the same track to write to.’ No, they’re just gonna be saying I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said, ‘I don’t understand. Why would you do that?’”

The palpably frustrated Clarkson claims she “fought and fought” to try and prevent her label from releasing Already Gone as her third single, out of respect for Beyonce.

“In the end, they’re releasing it without my consent,” she sighs. “It sucks, but it’s one of those things I have no control over. I already made my album. At this point, the record company can do whatever they want with it. It’s kind of a shitty situation, but.… You know, you learn.”

Source

I think Kelly is right and it is even greater that she actually stands up and speaks her mind. Since Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" and OneRepublic's "Aplogize" it seems as if every artist is nearly forced to work with Tedder in order to release an epic sounding ballad. I also love Ryan Tedder productions but it's slowly getting on my nerves as well that once again every female singer sounds the same.

Mariah Carey to Perform at VMA 2009

Mariah Carey is according to RapUp set to perform at the Video Music Awards 2009 which will take place in the Radio City Hall in New York City on Sep, 13 at 9 pm.

The “Obsessed” singer is set to take the stage at this year’s show, an insider exclusively reveals to Rap-Up.com. The 26th annual event will air September 13 from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

An official announcement is expected soon. Previously announced performers include Taylor Swift and Muse.

That's great news. I expect her to perform her second single by then to push her album which will be released two days later.

Rihanna's New Album Techno-based?

According to People.com Rihanna's new album will be techno-based.

A source working on it says, "it will be the album to really give her an identity musically." While no release date has been set, fans won't have to wait to hear from the artist, who is also making a guest appearance on Jay-Z's new record Blueprint 3 – the final chapter in his Blueprint trilogy. That album is due Sept. 11.

As for Rihanna's solo project, "It's very techno-based this time around," says the source. "She's not that far into her album yet, but it's sounding great."

Hmm. That's interesting since a previous article stated she would go for a rock sound. I really can't see how this new album will "give her an identity musically".

By the way, Drake revealed that Jay-Z's song "Run this town" which features Rihanna and Kanye West was originally a Rihanna track.

Ciara Dropped Her Phone...In The Toilet

How hilarious is that? LMAO

PrincessSuperChey guys! i dropped my telephone in the toilet yesterday:( so my twitter game is off:(

Poor thang...everything is going down.
But after rain there will be sunshine again...but only if you get a better image again.

Another Demo for MCs Album leaked

That's not a good look. I'm really not happy about leaking another demo for Mariah's next album because I like to buy the album and hear new songs. Hell yes, I know I don't need to listen to it but it's too late already. I won't play it out though.

The song sounds to me as if it's only album material but who knows what Mariah Carey's vocals can do to the song. The Song sounds nice.

Mariah Carey: "I'd like to make friends."

But perhaps the most insightful moment of the entire interview came when we were speaking about how Mariah dressed up in disguise on the shoot for "Obsessed." With her hair tied back and wearing a hoodie and a fake beard, the unrecognizable Mariah actually braved it alone for the first time in years as she walked around New York sans bodyguard. So when I asked her what she would do if she could be totally anonymous for a day, I was genuinely taken aback by her answer. She said, "I'd like to make friends." It might sound strange but if you think about it, Mariah has been a star since her teens. Ever since she first broke into the scene, Mariah has been Mariah Carey: Superstar. With that immense talent comes the fact that she will never know if people speak to her because she's a nice girl or because she's a star. I didn't feel sorry for her when she said it, but I did acknowledge that it was an incredibly honest answer from a woman who just happens to be one of the biggest stars in the world.

That sounds pretty sad but we can only imagine how difficult it can be to make real friends since you can't be sure if that person is a real friend or just likes you for your position. Therefore, her being the superstar she can't go anywhere without her bodyguards. That's something about the celebrity life that I do not envy at all.

Chrisette Michelle Denies "Ego" Was Her Song

She twittered
I have been mentioned in the incredible source "mediatakeout" how exciting!Sadtosay I nevr herd EGO b4 hot 97 played it!Luv u mrs Carter!Ow!
Rt: @ShanyLiyahJenny @epiphanygirl so you were never asked to sing and record "Ego"?<-no pumpkin. But i love the song tho

Alright then RapUp had the nerve to do some mediatakeouting. That was really not necessary. I love how some sites try to cause some drama to get attention. At the end of the day they just lose credibility.

Wynter Gordon - Guarded

Wynter Gordon just leaked that song she recorded two years ago via twitter.

Listen

The song is amazing. I love her pure voice and I cannot wait to hear more stuff. Wynter is definitely one of those people who really deserve to be heard. You go girl!!!

Madonna - Celebration Remix (Fan Recording)

I didn't expected that but that sounds HOT! Can't wait to hear the proper version of this and the regular one.

The top 20 new acts of the 2000s, by album sales

Linkin Park this week pulls ahead of Nelly as the top-selling album artist to emerge in the 2000s. The Los Angeles-based rock group has sold 21,223,000 albums. Nelly has sold 21,215,000. The two acts first hit The Billboard 200 within four months of each other in 2000.

To mark the occasion, here's a list of the top new acts of the decade. Of the thousands of acts that have made their first appearances on The Billboard 200 since Jan. 1, 2000, these are the 20 that have sold the most albums. The list includes six pop stars, five rock groups, four rappers, three country acts and two R&B divas. It features four acts that won Grammys as Best New Artist, two who won American Idol and one (Carrie Underwood) who managed to win both.

Artists who emerged early in the decade stood a much better chance of making the list than artists who broke through later. Sales peaked around 2000, and have been dropping since about 2004. So it's hard for even the hottest acts of recent years to compete with the eye-popping sales totals from the turn of the last decade.

Here are the top 20 new acts of the 2000s. The tally after the artist's name is the total number of albums that the artist has sold, as of this week. I also identify when the artist first cracked the chart, and the title of their best-selling album. Finally, I show where the act ranks on Nielsen/SoundScan's running list of the 200 best-selling artists in its history, which was the source from which I extracted this list.

1. Linkin Park, 21,223,000
2. Nelly, 21,215,000.
3. Nickelback, 19,414,000.
4. Josh Groban, 19,147,000
5. Rascal Flatts, 19,083,000.
6. Norah Jones, 16,728,000
7. 50 Cent, 15,589,000
8. Alicia Keys, 15,520,000
9. Coldplay, 14,426,000.
10. Ludacris, 13,411,000.
11. 3 Doors Down, 12,472,000
12. John Mayer, 11,467,000.
13. Avril Lavigne, 11,404,000
14. Keith Urban, 10,858,000
15. Beyonce, 10,565,000
16. Kelly Clarkson, 10,276,000

14. Keith Urban, 10,858,000. The country star, 41, is the oldest solo artist on the list, which just means he was a little late getting started. Urban, who was born in New Zealand, first charted with Keith Urban in 2000. His third album, 2004's Be Here, is his best-seller, with sales of 3,639,000 copies. 16. Kelly Clarkson, 10,276,000. Clarkson, 27, was the Season 1 champ on American Idol. The pop star first charted with Thankful in 2003. Her 2004 sophomore album, Breakaway, is her best-seller, with sales of 6,086,000 copies. Breakaway, which won a Grammy as Best Pop Vocal Album, spawned four top 10 hits, including the #2 smash "Since U Been Gone." Top 200 rank: #178.

17. Pink, 9,998,000. Pink, 29, first charted with Can't Take Me Home in 2000. The pop star's top-seller is her 2001 sophomore album, M!ssundaztood, which has sold 5,419,000 copies. The album spawned three top 10 hits, including the party classic "Get The Party Started." Top 200 rank: #184.

18. Evanescence, 9,965,000. The rock group won a Grammy as Best New Artist of 2003. Evanescence's 2003 debut album, Fallen, is its best-seller, with sales of 7,269,000 copies. The album spawned two top 10 hits, "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal." Top 200 rank: #186.

West, 32, was nominated for a Grammy as Best New Artist of 2004, but lost to Maroon5 (which didn't make the list). West has more than made up for that loss, amassing 12 Grammys. Top 200 rank: #187.

20. Carrie Underwood, 9,748,000. The country star, 26, was the Season 4 champ on American Idol and later won a Grammy as Best New Artist of 2006. Her 2005 debut, Some Hearts, is her best-seller, with sales of 6,815,000 copies. The album included her chart-topping Idol coronation song "Inside Your Heaven" and the top 10 hit "Before He Cheats." Top 200 rank: #192.

A final note: Kanye West always seems to be complaining that he doesn't win enough Grammys, but he has stockpiled 12 of the awards, as many as any artist who emerged in the 2000s. (Alicia Keys has also won 12.) Oddly, such Grammy-friendly artists as Nickelback, Josh Groban, Rascal Flatts and Avril Lavigne have won no Grammys. Maybe they should follow West's lead and show a little attitude!

Interesting listing although I don't really care for charts like this as they do not say anything about the quality.

Jay-Z feat. Kanye & Rihanna - Run This Town

The highly anticipated song "Rong This Town" surfaced.

I expected better but Rihanna's part is pretty catchy but at 4:11 she shounds a mess. This song could be a grower though. What do you think?

Whitney Houston - I Look To You

I'm not quite sure what to think about this song since I hate it to judge music when there is no high quality audio/video.

TMZ: Jackson's Death 'Almost Certainly' a Homicide

Law enforcement sources tell us the L.A. County Coroner is scheduled to release the autopsy results in Michael Jackson's death next week, and the cause of death will "almost certainly" be homicide -- death at the hands of another.

We're told the Coroner himself will make the call mid-week, after he gets the final toxicology report from an outside consultant. But based on the draft report as well as what has become "clear evidence," causes other than homicide -- natural, accidental, accidental overdose, and suicide -- have been ruled out.

We've already reported that for weeks, the LAPD has treated Jackson's death as a homicide. They have served multiple criminal search warrants -- most recently at Dr. Conrad Murray's Houston medical office. Dr. Murray is actively being investigated as the person who may have administered the powerful anesthesia Propofol to Jackson the day he died.

We're told both the Coroner and LAPD have significant evidence that Propofol caused Jackson's heart to stop.

Diddy says MJ came to his party to holler at Beyoncé

The great MJ had a crush on Bee, who can blame him? That's cute. I could not imagine them together though.

Mariah Carey Interview on 106 & Park

Miss Mariah Carey-Cannon visited BET 106&Park yesterday. She talks her Michael Jackson memorial tribute performance, Obsessed Remix, her new movie and album.

It seems like it is still not clear when we will get her new album. But when I remember "E=MC²" it was pushed back a few months so it's in fact no big deal.
Am I the only one who wants that Obsessed shirt or hoodie?
Yes at the Beyoncé shoutout. I didn't clearly see what it was exactly because they didn't really show it but yay.

Video: Mariah Carey feat. Gucci Mane - Obsessed Remix

OMG no. That was whack. WTF at her posing on a table while he's drinking a bottle of alcohol. The normal video has its boring parts but it didn't look that weak.
She needs to step up her game with them damn videos. They already sucked during the last era.

Wynter Gordon Working for J.Lo

Unfortunately we do not really get news on Wynter Gordon's solo project but as she twitters she is working for somebody else.

slow start today because I slept only 2 hours last night ..but ive been in the studio all day bout to start working on new jlo records

I really hope Wynter brings the heat for Jennifer Lopez because her latest efforts were rather weak.

The Reason Why Rihanna Shaved

Rihanna's newly shaved head wasn't just for her own enjoyment, her hairstylist Ursula Stephen revealed to S2S.

"It was really done for an Italian Vogue shoot," she said during a phone interview. "It was crazy and I can't wait until it comes out."

Ursula has also created some of the singer's most famous cuts, including "The Rihanna," her original pixie-with-a-long-bang style.

Sources revealed earlier in the month that the singer would be a part of the magazine's annual Black issue, which will include an insert dedicated to the Black Barbie.

Style blog Fashionologie confirmed that Rihanna shot with fashion photog Steven Klein.

Well I really hope the pics will be good enough to equal that mess she's rocking.

Beyoncé's Live DVD To Be Released In November

Superstar Beyoncé will be releasing her DVD of the "I Am... Tour" in November 2009.
Beyoncé is taping her four shows in Las Vegas which will be the the last dates of the American leg (July 30 - Aug 2)

As earlier rumoured she will also release the Platinum Edition of "I am Sasha Fierce" in October.
The re-release will feature the 16 original songs, four new songs (including "Ego Remix" and "Honesty") and eight videos plus a "Behind the Scenes".

I'm curious what the two new songs will be like but else this is similar to "Above & Beyoncé" which was released in the USA only. Considering that it is not known if this compilation will be released in the US as well since the sources we got were from Australia and Italy.

Beyoncé's Sister Solange Shaves Head

So what the hell is Solange Knowles thinking? She looks a hot ass mess with very short hair. Now she looks almost older than Tina.

She better goes to Beyoncé's wig closet and chooses one of her weaves.

Wonder what the Knowles family thinks.

Michelle Williams already tweeted her opinion on this matter:

teemwilliams Seeing Solange's haircut reminds me of when she was pregnant with Julez and rockin her nubian 'do!' Just beautiful!!!

Talking about twitter...I got the feeling she shaved her head because she was reminded on twitter that she went through a bald phase in high school.

Flo Rida,Kelly Rowland & Heidi Pratt To Perform @ Miss Universe Pageant

The “Hills” blonde, who doubles as an aspiring pop star, will perform during the 2009 Miss Universe Pageant telecast next month, Access Hollywood can exclusively reveal.

Madonna's "Celebration" Album Cover

This is so hot. I really love pop art and Andy Warhol's "Marilyn Monroe" artworks are classics. The designers for Madonna did a great job creating this.

Chrisette Michelle Performing on Wendy Williams

She's done a good job there. I'm glad she's getting some attention.

Kelly Rowland Interview with Craig Ferguson

That was one of the funniest interview I've seen with Kelly. Awesome.

LeToya on BET 106 & Park

She was so excited which was really cute I think. She looks like she's having a good time right now and I can't wait to hear her full album.

The Game Dissing Jay-Z Fans

Who is The Game again? He is so irrelevant it's not even funny anymore. Dissing Jay-Z or how in this case his fans is so outdated and childish. It's ridiculous because I got the feeling if you go to his concert you rather hear Jay-Z songs...

I'll be listening to Jay-Z now and you?

Ne-Yo On Rihanna's New Album & Chris Brown

"I've done some stuff for Rihanna's [project]," he told MTV News. "I didn't really want to go there too much, because I know that's what everybody is expecting. I don't think there isn't a person alive that doesn't know what happened and what it was. I don't feel like it needs to be glorified. I don't think that needs to be a song that's sung or written. It's sad that it took that happening to get the attention it deserves. Women get beat up all the time, and nobody says anything about it or chooses to do anything about it. But now that it happened to a celebrity, [it's], 'Let's talk about it on Oprah Winfrey.' "
"Chris Brown is a friend of mine, and I don't view him as a bad guy for what happened," Ne-Yo explained. "It was an absolute mistake, and he has some lessons to learn and some maturing to do. But I'm not gonna bash him for that. I'm not gonna turn my back on a person I call my friend because he made a mistake. [So] I can't write the Chris Brown bash song and then turn around and look myself in the mirror."

I think Ne-Yo always sounds honest in his interviews. I remember him answering the question if Beyoncé or Rihanna was more beautiful and he went with Beyoncé because Rihanna was like a sister to him and has this forehead. I was dying when he said this.

Shakira: "It's about time I have my little wolf"

Shakira did an interview with KTU which you can watch below.

Although she always says the same and nothing really new has been said it's always nice watching her especially when she did the family talk.

MTV Tr3s is going to premier her music video (probably "Loba") on July 30 ath 8 pm.

"Ego" was meant to be a Chrisette Michelle song

RapUp reports that "Ego" was originally given to Chrisette Michelle for her album "Epiphany".

Beyoncé turned “Ego” into a chart-topping hit, but can you guess which singer was originally offered the song?

The Elvis “BlacElvis” Williams and Harold Lilly production was first given to Chrisette Michele for her sophomore album Epiphany, she exclusively tells Rap-Up.com.

The R&B songstress decided to pass on the self-esteem-boosting track, which eventually became a single off Beyoncé’s platinum album I Am… Sasha Fierce.

The “What You Do” singer-songwriter’s own ego was part of the reason she turned down the future hit. “It was really scary for me to release my pen because I had written my first album myself,” she reveals. “You don’t know if they’re going to be able to capture your voice the same way that you captured it yourself.”

So what did Chrisette think of Beyoncé’s version when she heard it? “Incredible. So hot.”

You can tell I am very glad Beyoncé got (a big) "Ego" because I can hardly see anybody else giving the song the swag as Beyoncé does.

Mariah To Premiere The Video For "Obsessed Remix" tomorrow

Make sure to tune in when Mariah Carey will be live on BET's 106 & Park to be a witness when MC premieres the video for the "Obsessed Remix feat. Gucci Mane".
I absolutely hope she will give us the information why "Memoirs of an imperfect angel" has been pushed back.

In the meanwhile Tricky Stewart twittered that he is "on the grind, finishing up the Mariah album. Gonna be CRAZZZY!!!"
So I hardly think the delay is due to the music!? Maybe it is also the art work as it was the case with Kid Cudi. Just kidding.

Whitney Houston Reviews "I Look To You"

BET Reviews Whitney Houston's Listening Party

Clive Davis hosted a listening party for Whitney Houston's comeback album "I Look To You" in New York City yesterday. Among the listeners were Alicia Keys, Monica, Swizz Beats, LA Reid and of course Whitney herself. 9 songs were played and received good feedback.

1. “Million Dollar Bill” (written and produced by Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats)

An up-tempo, joyful track about love and probably one of the funkiest songs Whitney has ever done. “Million Dollar Bill” has an amazing bass line and almost recalls early Michael Jackson in Off The Wall. The catchy hook, “You make me feel like a million dollar bill.” Her vocal is strong with some power notes toward the end. The song has an Alicia Keys sound but fits for Whit — it’s current without making her seem like she is trying to compete with teenagers. The song received a standing ovation.

2. “Nothin’ But Love” (produced by Danja)

Whitney’s shout out to those who her love her and those who hate on her, she’s got “Nothin’ But Love” for all of them. Completely up-tempo and definitely an R&B club track that has the potential of sounding even hotter with a remix. The vocal stays around her lower register and, again, holds some classic Nippy notes at the end.

3. “Call You Tonight” (produced by Stargate)

Fun, mature and a song everyone can relate to. Heavily produced and while it can be tough to adjust to a pure vocalist like Whitney sing to a production heavy song, the mid-tempo track works for this album. “Call You Tonight” sounds like one of the better tracks from Just Whitney. Some lyrics include, “Destiny, I believe in it” and “I wish I could stay but I got to go, I’ll call you tonight.”

4. “Salute” (written and produced by R. Kelly)

Whitney is saying goodbye to a lover who has done her wrong, but she is letting go with no anger and confidently sings, “I salute you.” Could she be channeling Bobby Brown? The song is strictly R&B and almost sounds similar to “Heartbreak Hotel” from the My Love Is Your Love album. More instruments than production with keys and a strong vocal from Whitney. One line, “You think you know everything, you think your sh*t don’t stink.”

5. “I Look To You” - R. Kelly

Say what you want about R. Kelly but whitney-houston-album-cover-photothe man can still make a good R&B song. “I Look To You” is the title track and my favorite song so far. Beautiful lyrics like, “As I lay me down, heaven hear me now.” Her voice is deeply powerful, channeling classic Whitney with a pop sense but an R&B vocal. This song proves that she has not lost her voice and it’s definitely a melody I cannot wait to hear live. Whitney clearly feels every line and chord, charging through the ballad, transcending her own experience and reaching others who have been through adversity. Whitney has been criticized for not being emotional enough in her music — this track knocks out that complaint. From where I could see, Bobbi Kristina, Whitney’s daughter, was getting emotional during the song.

6. “Worth It” (R. Kelly)

“This song is for the lovers…” is one of the lines. Youthful and radio friendly, another R&B track. Nothing much to add about this one, enjoyable to listen to and had folks in the audience bobbing their head — I think I even saw a few head nods from Martha Stewart!

7. “A Song For You” (produced by Stargate)

Popularized by Donny Hathaway, “A Song For You” is a new spin on the Leon Russell classic. The beginning starts slow and the crowd gasped when they realized what song she was singing. Whitney sounded incredible, nearly haunting and before you knew it the song turns into a club banger! Mr. Davis explained the song was recorded just the night before. Definitely one for those who loves Whitney’s club tracks.

Overall, the nine tracks that were played received a good response. The album definitely has the potential to be a hit. For Whitney, there is no such thing as a “comeback” — icons “don’t call it a comeback,” they just jump back in the game whenever they are ready. One thing I do know is no one should expect 1985 Whitney. Artists evolve and it’s limiting when we trap performers in a particular box or era. The best piece about the tracks is that Whit has some grit to her voice, her vocals are still strong but she doesn’t mind getting a bit nasty with it. While the album isn’t finished, I believe folks will be pleasantly surprised.

If that doesn't sound good. This preview makes me positive that the album will be decent. But I don't really like to relay on critics as I rather form my own opinion as soon as I get the chance. But it is great to hear that he thinks Whitney hasn't lost her voice at all.

I NEED a duet for this album and I’m calling it — just like Madonna teamed with Justin Timberlake, I need a Beyonce and Whitney Houston duet. The song should be a single, maybe in the style of “Halo.” So, please — someone text, email, Twitter, or Facebook Clive Davis ASAP!

Normally I would say "hell yes!", but first I wanna hear what Whitney really sounds like because otherwise Beyoncé would emberass her vocally.

Great video. After "Gifted" that is definitely N.A.S.A.'s best song off "The Spirit of Apollo" and the effects are really cool.
